The Football Insider website say sources have told them that Robbie Savage is under consideration for the vacant manager’s job at Northampton Town.
Jon Brady resigned as manager of Northampton on Thursday with the club 21st in the League One table.
Savage has guided the Cheshire-based side to the top of the Northern Premier League – the seventh tier of English football.
However, in an interview with Cumbria Crack’s John Walsh for BBC Radio Cumbria Sport on Saturday, Savage said he was committed to taking Macclesfield as far as he could.
The Macclesfield Town manager Robbie Savage has claimed he was subjected to “unacceptable” abuse at the end of his side’s 1-0 win at Workington today. Listen to what he had to tell BBC Radio Cumbria Sport????#bbcfootball #nonleague #football #wafc

Although he wanted to manage at the highest level possible he questioned whether he was ready and was happy working with a special group of players currently with the Silkmen.
Indeed he has even identified the three signings that he plans to make for next season.
Savage and five others own Macclesfield as he originally took on the role as a director and then director of football.
He was appointed as manager in the summer to take his first coaching role in football and since then has been working to complete his coaching badges.
Macclesfield beat Workington 1-0 at Borough Park through a 91st minute goal but afterwards in his interview Savage complained about the abuse he had received.
He has spoken out about rejecting lucrative management offers from other clubs in recent months but Football Insider claims Northampton could now move to tempt the ex-midfielder away from the Silkmen.
