Barrow Raiders have asked supporters to donate towards the retention of captain Jarrad Stack for the 2025 Championship season.
It’s been brought about by what the club have described as budget shortfall.
The Raiders have released a statement in which they say £6,000 is needed to complete the new deal for Stack, with fans asked for donations of either £10, £20, £50 or £100.
Stack, who first arrived on the Uk to play for Workington Town, has gone on to make over 100 appearances for the Raiders and had made the decision to retire at the end of last season.
However, the Cumbrian club managed to convince the 36-year-old to have one more season which has come at a cost.
The Barrow statement reads: “We need your help and support by joining our 1875 club or playing our monthly raffle for a very big reason.
“Firstly we would like to provide update on our recruitment.
“We currently have 21 players announced for the 2025 season with one more of our current players added shortly; it’s just in the hands of our media team.
“In addition we continue to provide pathways for promotion within and we have 4 of our current and former Furness Raiders players training with the squad and they will get opportunities in the friendlies.
“We are also at an advanced stage with negotiations ready to bring in 3 Super League forwards on season long loans with fees paid by us to their parent clubs.
“This will take the number of signed on players to 25 for the season together with back-up from our Furness Raiders taking us to 29 available players for selection and our budget just about completely used.
“And now the reason we need your help.
“We have managed to convince our club captain Jarrad Stack to have one more year. We are obviously delighted as there has been no dips in performance with age and we know for sure we are getting a 100 per cent committed player.
“BUT we have a budget shortfall and need to find an extra £6,000 to complete the deal.
“If 50 extra supporters could commit to £10 per month for a year in our 1875 club then we could reach our target. Can you help to get the skipper over the line?”
Meanwhile Barrow have announced that outside back Brett Carter has signed a new one-year deal with the club, keeping him at the Northern Competitions Stadium until the end of the 2025 season.
Next season will mark Carter’s 17th in the professional game after starting with the Raiders in 2008. He has gone on to feature 75 times in all competitions across three spells.
In between those he had substantial service to Workington Town an d then also at Whitehaven to complete the full county round.
Last season, Carter made 10 appearances and was named as 18th man on eight further occasions. His only try of the campaign came during a narrow home defeat to Toulouse.
On the new deal, he said: “I’m really happy to sign for another year at Barrow, in what will more than likely be my last season.
“Rugby has been my life since I was six years old, so it’s such a big thing to know when to step away from the game. I still love the competitiveness and physicality of the sport, and feel I still have something to offer to the team.
“We can get really light on numbers during the season and I’m happy to play anywhere.
“I’ll look forward to seeing what this season brings and helping out the squad when needed, in a league that seems to get tougher every year.”
