A specialist residential outdoor education centre for disabled children and adults has been given a £7,600 boost.
The Bendrigg Trust has been given £7,621 from the Morrisons Foundation, the charitable arm of the supermarket chain.
The cash will allow the trust to renovate its bathroom facilities by installing an accessible, adjustable toilet and shower facility for children with severe mobility impairments.
Sarah Abbiss, trusts and foundations fundraiser of The Bendrigg Trust, said: “We are absolutely delighted that the trustees of The Morrisons Foundation have very kindly agreed to make a grant to The Bendrigg Trust which will enable us to purchase a mobile shower trolley and toileting system to meet the personal hygiene needs of disabled individuals who come to visit our residential centre in Cumbria.
“These items will mean participants can fully immerse themselves in the joy of adventure in the great outdoors and the many benefits this brings, without concerns of personal hygiene.”
Established in 1978, Bendrigg is one of only a few centres in the UK offering fully accessible adventure activities for disabled participants.
Every year, the charity supports around 3,000 disabled people (91% of whom are aged 25 and under) to discover their potential through adventurous activities, including climbing, canoeing, and caving.
Rachel Latham and Rachael Atkinson, community champions at the Morrisons store in Kendal, presented the donation.
Rachel said: “It was an honour to visit Bendrigg and pass on this huge donation to help them renovate their bathroom facilities for disabled children. The work they do is amazing and I’m delighted that we’ve been able to help in such a meaningful way.”
Rachael added: “Supporting charities at the hearts of our community is what the Morrisons Foundation is all about. It’s been truly a great experience to present this grant that will make a difference to their activities for so many years to come.”
The Morrisons Foundation was set up by Morrisons supermarket in 2015 and awards grants for charity projects which help improve people’s lives. Since launching, over £44 million has been donated to hundreds of charities across England, Scotland and Wales.
