
Carlisle City were unable to create club history when they lost their third round FA Vase tie at Crook Town 2-0.
But it was a very controversial defeat as the opening Crook goal after a goal-less first half was a hotly debated penalty.
Jake Simpson claimed he had stopped a Crook effort on the line with his stomach, pointing to the mud stain on the front of his shirt.
The linesman intervened and the referee awarded the penalty, and to make matters worse, sent off Simpson for dissent.
The penalty was scored and after a rush of cards Tom Mahone was also sent off for receiving two yellows in quick succession.
City battled bravely with nine men and conceded a second goal in time added on.
Craig Moody (61) scored the penalty and Josh Macdonald (90+5) added the second.
