A lone Lake District fell runner attempting the Bob Graham Round was airlifted to hospital after a fall.
Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team was called out on Thursday to Scafell at around 1.30pm.
The runner, 42 miles into her Bob Graham Round attempt, had fallen on a steep descent on Scafell, resulting in a upper arm and shoulder injury which left her unable to move.
The team made their way to the scene and the Great North Air Ambulance was called for support, but due to weather conditions and cloud cover they had to abort.
Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team said: “Once on scene the increasingly cold runner was assessed and provided with additional shelter and insulation. A Coastguard helicopter with winching capability was then requested to help with a swift evacuation, with Rescue 199 from Prestwick quickly responding.
“Strong pain relief was given to the runner to make her as comfortable as possible, before transferring to a vacuum mattress and team stretcher in readiness for the winch evacuation.”
