Work to demolish structurally unsound internal walls on Kirkby Lonsdale’s Main Street will be carried out today.
An update for residents and businesses has been issued to keep them informed after the tragic blaze which claimed a man’s life in the town last weekend.
Westmorland & Furness Council said the controlled demolition will be carried out today, Monday, December 16, and there will be noise and dust as a result.
It added: “The fire service have been supporting contractors with filling the ballast tanks that will form part of the scaffolding to the Old Market Hall façade, so please don’t be concerned if you do see the fire service on site.”
Meanwhile, an online fundraiser has been set up to help townsfolk. It has so far raised over £26,000. People can donate here.
The Community Hub will relocate back to the St Mary’s Church from today between 9am and 5pm until further notice.

The next public meeting will be held today at 5pm in the Lunesdale Hall to update residents and businesses on ongoing works. All welcome to hear the updates and ask questions.
