A Kendal takeaway can stay open until 3am at the weekend.
Members of the licensing sub-committee for Westmorland and Furness Council granted permission for the Domino’s Pizza branch on New Road to stay open until 3am on Fridays and Saturdays.
The takeaway can also stay open until midnight from Mondays to Thursdays.
The branch currently has opening hours from 11am to 11pm every day, according to the Domino’s Pizza website.
Hal Abdul, project manager at Strava Group, which operates the Domino’s on New Road, told the committee that Domino’s did not fry.
He also told the members that the food served at Domino’s was ‘healthy’.
The plans received two letters of objection from residents who raised concerns about potential disturbance at unsocial hours.
One objector said: “If Domino’s is open at midnight until 3am every day, there will be people heading down there to gather after other places have closed. This will lead to a huge increase in noise and low-level disorder, as occurs when people get together late at night.”
In response to the objections, a representative from Domino’s stated the takeaway would have signs displayed asking customers to leave the premises quietly.
The branch also has 24-hour CCTV in operation both internally and externally that covers the full area.
The applicant said it operated other late night Domino’s stores and continually monitor the situation with customers and if there were any issues, it was prepared to engage a door supervisor if required.
Mr Abdul said the group operates fast food outlets throughout the UK and added: “We’ve never had any police complaints.”
The sub-committee said: “Although the sub-committee had considered the concerns of the two residents that submitted written representations, the sub-committee were of the view that the concerns raised did not justify refusal of the application.
“The sub-committee attached weight to the fact that no responsible authorities had objected to the application, notably Cumbria Constabulary had submitted no objections.”
