Carlisle United crashed 8-0 to Morecambe in the Central League Cup but the two clubs went down a different route on team selection.
The Blues fielded a full squad of youth team players while the opposition chose to put-out a much more experienced side, with the majority all first team players.
Marcus Dackers opened the scoring after only four minutes when he found enough space in the box before home a low shot,
United had an opportunity to equalise after some sharp passing gave Freddie O’Donoghue a sight of goal but his shot lacked the power to beat the keeper who saved well.
On 17 minutes Morecambe doubled their lead when the powerful Dackers broke through and squared for Paul Lewis to complete a simple tap in.
It was that man Dackers again on 28 minutes when he got on the end of a long ball but was dragged down by Jack Porter inside the area. Dackers made it 3-0 from the spot kick.
On 35 minutes Dackers completed his hat-trick when a scuffed shot wrong-footed home keeper Casey Sillitoe.
It became 5-0 at half-time when Paul Lewis fired across goal for Harvey Macadam who squeezed it in at the back post.
Morecambe picked up where they left off and scored again in the 51st minute. A ball in from the right was met by a thunderous half-volley from Paul Lewis, which gave Sillitoe no chance.
Morecambe brought on further experience at the break, with ex Carlisle forward Hallam Hope and Jordan Slew joining proceedings.
It was Hope who added the seventh on 59 minutes, as he finished calmly from six yards after he was picked out in the box by a low cut back.
After this play became very scrappy and there was only one more goal with Hope netting his second from a late penalty.
