An innovative scheme has given a primary school a new lease of life.
Community RePaint Carlisle – which reuses left over paint from people, tradespeople, retailers and manufacturers – carried out the painting project at Eastriggs Community School in Dumfries & Galloway.
The team at the Carlisle paint redistribution site gave a technicolour refresh using ReColour paint, which had been remanufactured from the leftover product donated by people and projects that no longer need it.
The Community RePaint Project was established in the UK in 1993 in partnership with Dulux, to address the issue of paint waste. Around 50 million litres of paint go to waste each year in the UK – the equivalent of 20 Olympic-sized swimming pools!
Maisie Hunt, director at Community RePaint Carlisle and The Rebuild Site, said: “We hit 10,000 Instagram followers, which was a big achievement for us, driving community engagement and reducing waste of construction materials – we’ve seen how much of an impact this initiative really has.
“So, to celebrate this, we organised a volunteering day where we revamped a using our ReColour paint.
“Another aspect of what we do is collect construction materials to stop them from ending up in landfill, supporting communities in Carlisle, Wolverhampton and Workington.
“We encourage everyone to reuse materials where they can and take advantage of opportunities like this to help us make a difference!”
