A farmer died after he was found trapped underneath a quad bike.
David Charles Knipe was 65 and lived at High Carlingill, near Tebay, Cockermouth Coroners’ Court heard this morning.
A coroners’ office investigation into his death began on December 13.
Opening an inquest, acting senior coroner for Cumbria, Kirsty Gomersal, said: “The brief circumstances death are that he was found trapped underneath a quad bike in Cumbria and was conveyed for treatment to the Royal Preston Hospital.
“Tragically Mr Knipe died at the Royal Preston Hospital on December 6.
“A post mortem examination has been carried out and I am presently offered an unascertained cause of death pending further pathological enquiries.”
The location at which Mr Knipe was found under the quad bike was not given during today’s short court hearing.
A statement had been provided by a Lancashire police constable after Mr Knipe was identified by his wife, Christine, at the hospital.
Mrs Gormersal said: “Given the circumstances of Mr Knipe’s death I am satisfied an inquest will be required. Can I take this opportunity to offer Mr Knipe’s family and friends my deepest condolences on this passing.”
In order that further enquiries can be made into his death — including final confirmation of the medical cause of death — the inquest was adjourned until a provisional conclusion date of May 24 2025.
