Decisive action in snooker league

Round 8 of the L&L Property Contractors Snooker League saw some decisive action and exceptional performances across both divisions, highlighted with a high-quality 5-0 away win for Workington’s Station Road over fellow townies United Club B. 

The match started as Tom Thompson opened the scoring with a polished 72-8 victory over Shane Tallentire to put Division 1’s Station Road 1-0 ahead. 

Frame two saw Kevin Kirkham deliver a scintillating performance, crafting a superb break of 35 on his way to a 75-15 win over Andrew Carter, showcasing why he remains one of the league’s standout players.

Mike Walker extended the match lead in frame three for the the Division 1 title contenders, controlling the game to defeat Adam Sowden 48-30.

John Teasdale displayed great composure in frame four, securing a 52-19 victory over Jamie Flitton to put Station Road Club into an impressive 4-0 lead. 

In the final frame, Darren Lawson competed the whitewash with a solid 39-23 win against Stephen Harrison, completing an outstanding team performance. 

Station Road climb to 24 points and retain second place in Division 1, while United Club B stay second in Division 2 with 16 points.

Next up, Workington Veterans Club A continued their fine form with a commanding 4-1 victory over Veterans Club B in the division 1 versus division 2 encounter.

In the first frame, Mark Tunstall set the tone for the hosts with a confident performance, clinching an 89-10 win over Adam Hodgson, displaying excellent control and precision.

Kevin Basnett followed up in frame two with a break of 43 in a composed 64-12 win over Wayne Sinclair, maintaining his season’s dominance and giving Vets A a 2-0 lead.

Vets A extended their lead in frame three, on the back of a tactical masterclass, overcoming Lewis Straughton 51-17, putting the home side in an unassailable 3-0 position.

In the fourth frame the most dominant performance of the match was delivered as Vets A’s Mark Tatton produced breaks of 31 and 32 to defeat Jordan Ferguson 81-34 in the process. 

Nevertheless, Simon Tootle ensured the Vets B side avoided the whitewash in a thrilling 48-37 victory over Paul Smith to end the match on a positive for the Division 2 outfit. 

Vets A strengthen their third position in Division 1 on 21 points, while Vets B remain at the foot of Division 2 with 9 points.

The next game delivered a closely contested match with Division 1’s Workington Golf Club managing to edge out Division 2’s Rack Shack 3-2 in a thrilling encounter.

Phil Denvir gave the Whitehaven side an early 1-0 lead with a controlled 58-42 win over singles champion Ryan Ismay in the opening frame of the match. 

Neil Dougherty extended the visitors’ advantage in frame two, overcoming a difficult opponent in the Golf Club’s Mark Brasted with a high-scoring 76-67 victory. 

At 2-0 to the Rack Shack the Golf Club’s Bryan Walker sparked a comeback in frame three with a clinical 70-39 victory over Whitehaven’s Chris McKelvey.

Simon Fraser kept the momentum going for the Golf Club hosts, defeating Adam Morilla 64-39 in frame four to level the match at 2-2.

In the decider it was Mark Cowan who completed the comeback victory for Workington Golf Club with a commanding 49-17 triumph over Lee Dougherty, securing a vital 3-2 win.

Golf Club climb to 21 points but sit in fourth place in Division 1, while the Rack Shack hold steady in a Division 2 fourth place on 12 points.

Finally, Workington Conservative Club delivered a narrow 3-2 away win over fellow tier 2 outfit Maryport Social, further showcasing their credentials as Division 2 title contenders. 

Former county champion Alan Moore gave the visitors a strong start with a composed 50-40 victory over Ben Scott to put Cons 1-0 up. 

Social’s Andrew Scott ensured the match was tied after frame two, overcoming Brian Kendall 50-7, in tactical encounter. 

David Holland put Cons 2-1 ahead in frame three with a brilliant 64-22 victory over Andrew Sharp, including a neat 32 break to secure the win.

Cons extended their lead in frame four as Ryan Barker edged a closely fought 47-41 battle against Gary Miller to put the away side 3-1 up. 

However, with Cons unable to field a player in the last frame of the match Social’s Greg Todd was awarded the victory to pull the final score back to 3-2. 

Workington Cons retain top spot in Division 2 with 20 points, while Maryport Social sit third place in Division 2, on 13 points.
