The Met Office has issued weather warnings for high winds on New Year’s Eve in Cumbria.
The warning, from 7am until 11pm, said strong westerly winds were expected.
It said: “Strong and gusty south westerly winds will develop across southern Scotland and northeast England on Tuesday morning, veering to westerly during the evening.
“Gusts of 50mph to 60mph are expected, perhaps reaching 70mph in a few exposed areas, and this may lead to some travel disruption.”
What should I expect?
- Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely
- Probably some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer
- Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely

Weather warnings for snow and high winds on New Year’s Day have been removed.
The county was expected to see heavy and persistent snow as a band of rain with deep low pressure moved in from the west between 9am and 3am on Thursday.
