It added that Newlands Pass was impassable due to a one-vehicle collision and road conditions.
Allerdale police added: “Please can drivers ideally avoid the area unless absolutely necessary.”
Traffic is also queuing on the A591 at Bassenthwaite. Our colleagues at Cumbria Road Watch said the road was affected by black ice.
