
The Cumberland County League was back for its first fixtures of 2025 on Saturday with a mixture of league and cup action and plenty of goals.
In the Benevolent Cup Quarter Final, nothing could separate Mirehouse and Keswick as they played out a 2-2 draw.
Jack Burns hit the back of the net twice for Mirehouse with Keswick goals coming from Callum West and Ewan Clark. Mirehouse eventually advanced into the semi- final after winning 6-5 on penalties.
In the second round of the Benevolent Cup, Premier Division outfit Maryport Athletic booked a quarter final spot after goals from Ethan Weir, Alec Little, Jack Kemp and Ciaran Laverty gave them a 4-0 victory against Unisun Athletic Youth Development from the league below.
Division One side Workington Juniors are also into the Quarter Final of the Benevolent Cup after they beat Whitehaven Miners Social from the Premier Division 2-0 with goals from Harry Watson and Jack Nixon.
In Division One, A Carl Denver hat trick helped Whitehaven AFC Reserves to a 4-0 win against Dearham United with the other goal coming from Conner Kilgour.
Windscale Reserves earned themselves a 6-1 victory against Silloth with Bobby Fitzpatrick (2), Jack Fitzpatrick, Ben Mahaffy, Leo Brennan and Kian Hoey all scoring. Kris Nichol got Silloth goal.
The Premier Division match between Aspatria and Unisun Athletic and the Benevolent Cup semi final tie featuring Bransty Rangers and Wigton Harriers were both postponed due to the weather.
Next Saturday fixture, league matches are 2pm kick-off with cup matches kicking off at 1.30pm.
