Carlisle Skills Fair is taking place on Thursday January 23, from 2pm to 6.30pm at Carlisle College.
After the success of the 10th anniversary skills fair in 2024, this year’s event is shaping up to be bigger and even better, said organiser John Stevenson, the city’s former MP.
Mr Stevenson said: “A previous Prime Minister once said that the most important policy was ‘education, education, education’. I actually believe it is more than that and should in fact have been ‘skills, skills, skills!’.
“In a modern, more complicated and technical world all kinds of skills are required and are now a necessity for more and more businesses.
“That is why I have continued with the Carlisle Skills Fair after 10 years organising and hosting it as the local MP.
“I believe I can still play a part in supporting local businesses and the Cumbria economy, and the next generation of employees.

“The response to the 11th Carlisle Skills Fair has been fantastic.
“The sponsors and training providers have all got behind it as have over 80 local and national businesses.
As I have always maintained Cumbria is a great place to live and work in.
“However, we have no divine right to be successful.

“Therefore, ensuring people have the right skills for the future and businesses have the required skilled staff is critical to a prosperous and successful future.
“If the Carlisle Skills Fair can in some way hep to align both these needs, then that must be a positive.
“Skills really do matter.”
