A youth rugby open day will be held in Penrith this weekend.
Aimed at youngsters in year four, the free event will be held at Penrith Rugby Club, Winters Park, from 9am to 11am on Sunday.
Ewan Adair and Will Stevens, coaches of Penrith’s under-9s, said: “It is just be a fun activity day with RFU trained coaches as a taster to see if your youngster may want to join the existing mixed Under-9 team, for players aged eight on September 1 2024.”
The mini and youth system at Penrith has a popular and successful set-up with mixed teams from Under-7s to Under-11s and then girls’ and boys’ teams from Under-12s upwards into the Colts and senior men’s and women’s rugby.
The coaches added: “If you have any other players at your school, the club accepts players from year 2 to year 6 and all are welcome. We can pass your details on to the relevant coach.
“The U14 and U16 boys teams are both playing in the Cumbria Cup final this year with several other boys and girls teams still in this and other competitions.
“We are a very inclusive squad and our club is a great place to learn a sport with a position for everyone.
“Most importantly though it’s to make friends and have fun. We hope to see as many new players for the free taster session.”
Players are asked to bring trainers – or boots if they have them – and comfortable sporty clothes.
