One of the homes at the centre of a suspected gas explosion in a West Cumbrian town will be demolished.
On New Year’s Eve, an explosion at Hugh Street on Bransty rocked Whitehaven. Three people who were seriously injured – two women and a man – remain in hospital.
The area remains cordoned off and experts were brought in yesterday, Monday January 8, to assess the structure of the buildings on the street.
There will be a full demolition of number 28 Hugh Street and a partial demolition of 27 Hugh Street. This work will start as soon as practically possible, said Cumberland Council.
The authority and other agencies met with residents yesterday.

It said welfare and emergency housing support continues to be provided by Cumberland Council.
Eleven households are being provided with temporary accommodation.
Work was undertaken over the weekend to clear the area of vehicles, plus remove debris from the footways and carriageway. This was completed on Sunday.
The council said it would continue to keep in close contact with residents to provide regular updates and when safe to do so, it said it would support residents to return to their properties.
It will also continue to provide temporary accommodation and welfare support, it added.
