A third cat not seen since a devastating suspected gas explosion on a West Cumbrian street has been found.
Fenix was among four cats who had not been seen since the incident on New Year’s Eve on Hugh Street, Bransty, Whitehaven.
Two had been found in recent days but Fenix and Fenton, although both being seen around, were proving a bit more elusive.
Animal Concern Cumbria said yesterday morning, Saturday January 11, it had received a message from a neighbour to say that they had seen a small grey cat hanging around on the windowsill of the house where the gas explosion occurred.
It said: “A member of the team rushed through and spotted sweet little Fenix hanging around in the upstairs of the property in among the fallen down roof, rubble and insulation.
“We set carefully laid traps and cameras as Fenix was understandably very wary, she had been living upstairs since the explosion and fending for herself.

“Around 11.30pm last night our cameras detected movement and then the trap closed and Fenix was secured and safe!
She looks to be in surprisingly good health, though a bit skinny and dehydrated so is spending the day with the team at Millcroft Veterinary Group.
“She will then come to ACC for plenty of snuggles and snackies alongside the rest of her feline family.”
They thanked Kenzie’s K9 animal search and rescue for all their hard work to trap Fenix and search and rescue the other cats so far.
Fenton, a tabby with a white chest is still missing, though he has been seen.
Animal Concern West Cumbria has asked people in the Bransty area to keep an eye out for him and call or message the charity with any sightings on 07712 330829.
