Parkside Road in Kendal will remain closed for another day as engineers continue with emergency gas works.
The road is closed in the area of the railway bridge and junctions of Castle Grove and Valley Drive and it is expected the work will take another day to complete.
South Lakes Police said: “We have received concerns that range from significant congestion and delays occurring on Castle Grove through to vehicles travelling well in excess of the 20mph limit as they cut through the estate.
“Please avoid the area if you can, particularly at peak times 8am to 10am and 3pm to 6pm and use alternative routes if possible.
“Regardless of the inconvenience please slow down. These are residential area’s and drivers should travel in a manner that respects local residents and the 20mph limit. We will be conducting random checks in the area.”
