A Kendal man, prosecuted following an alleged town centre stabbing, has appeared in court.
Daniel Mark West, 22, faces three charges which were brought following an incident at Highgate on Sunday, November 3.
Police officers had responded after received a report from North West Ambulance Service at 11.45pm.
It was reported that a man had suffered serious injuries.
That man, in his 20s, was taken to hospital with a serious but non-life threatening chest injury, and was detained in a stable condition.
West appeared at Carlisle Crown Court this afternoon.
During a short hearing in front of Judge Nicholas Barker, West pleaded not guilty to one charge which alleges that he unlawfully and maliciously wounded the man with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm.
He further denied an alternative, lesser charge which alleges unlawful wounding.
West also entered a not guilty plea to a third charge. This alleges that he had an article with a blade or point — a knife — without good reason or lawful authority, in public at Highgate, on November 3.
West, of Captain French Lane, Kendal, entered his not guilty pleas while appearing in court remotely over a video link in front of Judge Nicholas Barker. He is next due to stand trial in front of a crown court jury.
This hearing is due to start in April this year and, it is estimated, will last around three days.
In the meantime West, who was represented at today’s hearing by defence barrister Anthony Parkinson, remains remanded in custody.
