Settle Carlisle Railway Development Company has been shortlisted for three national awards.
It has been nominated in the National Community Rail Awards 2025 in the categories of Outstanding Volunteer Contribution, It’s Your Station and Photo Competition.
The awards are celebrating 20 years of showcasing inspiring initiatives from across community rail as the wider railway industry celebrates 200 years since the birth of modern railways and the Settle Carlisle line celebrates its 150th anniversary of opening.
The Settle Carlisle Railway Development Company’s shortlisted projects focused on the voluntary work of Jill Tiernan, the community projects run at Appleby Railway Station and the photographs of the Settle Carlisle Calendar Girls who raised more than £1,000 for an air ambulance charity with their 2025 calendar.
The winners will be announced at a ceremony in Newcastle on Thursday March 13.
Chairman of Settle Carlisle Railway Development Company, Pete Myers, said: “We are delighted to have been shortlisted for three awards, especially in our 150thanniversary year.
“These awards recognise the work of our team and volunteers who support the Settle Carlisle Railway. Jill, who is a member of the Friends of the Settle Carlisle Line, goes the extra mile to provide benefits to the communities along the line, and I am especially pleased her work has been recognised.
“The Friends have also played a big part in the success of our community events at Appleby station, and working together as the Settle Carlisle family is helping provide more for those who live along our line.
“Our calendar girls, who volunteered celebrated the 20th anniversary of our refreshment trolley service by posting for this year’s calendar deserve recognition in the Photo Competition. Their bravery has raised the profile of the line and helped raise funds for a very worthy cause.”
