A Cumbrian accountancy firm has donated £5,000 to good causes.

Every year, Dodd & Co asks its team to put forward suggestions for charities that are close to their hearts or deserve recognition for their work.

After careful consideration, the firm said, the Dodd & Co Christmas Charities of 2024 were Eden Valley Hospice, CRY for Eden and Leukaemia UK.

Eden Valley Hospice provides specialist care for adults in north Cumbria who have life limiting conditions, along with support for their families, friends and carers.

For over 30 years, Eden Valley Hospice has delivered care, free at the point of delivery, ensuring patients and their families receive the best quality care for now and for the future.

CRY for Eden, Cardiac Risk in the Young, is a local charity dedicated to preventing sudden cardiac deaths in young people through awareness, screening, research and support for affected families.

Awareness for the charity not only helps identify those at risk, but also ensures correct clinical practice. CRY wants all young people to have the opportunity to have heart screening.

The mission of Leukaemia UK is to bring together the leukaemia community by finding and funding life-changing research that matters most to people affected through research, awareness and advocacy.

They are doing everything they can to make sure that the next person diagnosed has the best possible experience of diagnosis, treatment and care.

Dodd & Co has also made donations to Penrith and Carlisle foodbanks, who work hard collecting and distributing food and essential items to local families in need, CFM Cash for Kids, Carlisle Youth Zone and Cumbria Community Foundation Winter Warmth Appeal.

Altogether, the donations made totalled £5,000.

Heidi Marshall, partner at Dodd & Co, said: “We are delighted to support such incredible charities again this year, which means so much more when they are meaningful to our team here at Dodd & Co.

“Every suggestion represented a truly worthy cause, and it was a difficult decision on who to help this year.

“All of these charities make an incredible difference, supporting local people, families and those further afield during some of the toughest times of their lives.

“Their work is invaluable, and we hope our contributions go some way to support their remarkable efforts.”
