Leigh Leopards roared at Workington Town’s Fibrus Community Stadium – but were matched by the roar of a bumper crowd.
Leigh walked away from the clash 60-0 but Workington had their moments and never gave up – entertaining the 3,033 spectators in the process.

But the match gave Workington an extra boost as Leigh owner Derek Beaumont said his club would not be taking its usual share of gate receipts.

Town qualified for the third round of the Challenge Cup due to their 56-0 victory over The Royal Navy in Portsmouth.

Leigh’s last visit to Derwent Park in a Challenge Cup tie was in 1994, and resulted in a record 94-4 defeat for the club.

Leigh now progress to the Challenge Cup fourth round.

Workington began well in the first five minutes, but a gap opened up and Lachlan Lam took advantage, with David Armstrong scoring.

The Leopards were dominant throughout – although Workington did cross a minute before the interval, but referee Liam Rush ruled it offside.

Leopards put seven more tries past Town in the second half.

Tries: Armstrong (6), Nui (11), O’Brien (15), Hodgson (30), Badrock (50), Brand (54), Hughes (60), Halton (62), Pene (70), Nui (77), Dwyer (79).
