Carlisle Cougars welcomed Chester Devas to cold Cumbria on Sunday – it was always going to be a tough match due to some late illness and injuries in the Carlisle squad, meant the team were playing with 14.
Chester took early possession of the ball and Carlisle fended their attack inside the 22 for 15 minutes, not allowed Chester to cross the try line.
Chester ran in 3 tries in the first half, but missed the conversion every time.
Carlisle started the second half with renewed vigour, however due to an injury just before half time, they started with 13 players.

Before a reinforcement arrived 10 mins into the game. The late comer, Hannah Sherlock broke through four tackles but fell just short of the try line.
A quick pass to speedy flanker, Kim Fitzmaurice got the first points on the board for Carlisle. The Cougars’ 10 Sarah Smyth with her trusty boot added a quick conversion.
Sadly, for all the efforts, playing with a reduced squad meant that Chester managed a further three tries, however missing all but one conversion.

They pushed back at the Cougars with their last attempt at crossing the try line being held up by centre, Emma Copeland.
A hard fought match, where it just came down to the number of players on the pitch.
