A West Cumbrian parkrun run director has reached a major volunteering milestone.
Shaun Cavanagh has volunteered at the Saturday morning 5k event in Workington 500 times.
Shaun, alongside a dedicated core team of Cumberland AC members, introduced parkrun to the town in 2013, initially starting at the Moorclose Sports Centre before moving to its present start point near Calva Bridge.
Shaun has been the special leader and race director, who each week co-ordinates volunteers, checks the safety of the course and welcome’s runners – new and old – to the event.
parkrunners said: “His traditional loud shout out ensures no key milestone goes without a mention, so it was only fitting that his achievement was applauded by all and enjoyed a special 500 cake afterwards in Workington Cricket Club.”
Workington parkrun takes place at 9am on Saturdays.
