A storytelling festival will return to the Lake District this summer.
Stealing Thunder will take place from Friday June 20 to Sunday June 22 in Bowland Bridge, near Windermere.
This year’s theme is Scandinavian Midsummer and will see storytellers from Sweden, Finland and Denmark joining the programme to tell fairy tales for grown-ups and myths for kids.
Described as one of 2023’s Northern creative highlights, the festival returns after a hiatus in 2024.
As well as contemporary storytelling performances, the festival will offer a range of activities including midsummer celebrations, story walks through the woods, hands-on workshops, live music, evening campfires, late-night DJ sessions and food and drink.
While the main programme targets adult audiences, the festival is very family friendly, with engaging storytelling experiences for kids and activities to keep all ages happy – from toddler to teen.
Performers confirmed for 2025 include Ben Haggarty, Debs Newbold, Nick Hennessey, Sarah Liisa-Wilkinson, Tim Ralphs, Kersti Stäbi, Mikke Öberg, Kersti Ståbi, Jesper la Cour and Troels Kirk Ejsing, and stick-swinging, punked pop and global epic ensemble, Pandvani108.
Shows will include; The Game of Candles where storytellers call in the sinister and the strange with a night of haunting tales from around the world, wild stories and music from the Finnish forest; and a physical and a comedic retelling of the legend of Beowulf.
