Guests at a weekend of adventure in the Lake District will be joined by two of the top names in women’s endurance sport.
Author, journalist, broadcaster and podcaster Louise Minchin will join paddleboarder and writer Jo Moseley for action on the water – and conversation with guests afterwards at the Burn How Garden Hotel in Bowness from May 2 to May 4.
Louise presented the UK’s most watched morning programme, BBC Breakfast for 20 years.
Before that she was a news anchor on the BBC News Channel and the BBC’s One O’Clock News. She has also presented The One Show, Five Live Drive, Real Rescues and Missing Live.
Louise has taken part in several reality TV shows including I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, Time Crashers and Celebrity MasterChef.
Alongside her career in journalism Louise is an endurance athlete, and her first book, Dare to Tri, charted her journey from the BBC Breakfast sofa to representing the Great Britain Triathlon team in her age-group at World and European Championships.
Her second book Fearless, Adventures with Extraordinary Women reflects her passion for celebrating women’s success in sport and endeavour. In each chapter Louise takes on a different challenge with a courageous woman, to get to know them and tell their incredible stories.
Her debut thriller, Isolation Island, is set in a gruelling reality television show on a remote Scottish Island. It was published in September 2024.
She will join best-selling author and paddleboard guru Jo for sessions on the water which are open to novices as well as those who have already tried paddleboarding but would like to gain more confidence. Jo, now 60, believes that women should be encouraged to age adventurously.
Accommodation including breakfast is at the Burn How Hotel, and on the Sunday evening Louise and Jo will take part in Meet the Author special event; the Burn How hosts a monthly book club where guests meet writers.
Jo Moseley is a single mum of two grown up sons living on the Yorkshire coast. She is the author of two bestselling books about beautiful places to paddleboard with award winning Vertebrate Publishing: Stand Up Paddleboarding in Great Britain (2022) and Stand Up Paddleboarding in the Lake District (2024).
She began paddleboarding on Derwentwater in 2016 as a way to heal her injured knee. The minute she stood up she says she felt like a warrior, not a worrier, and she fell in love with it that day. It has, Jo said, transformed her life.
