Two free dance events will be staged this weekend at the Sands Centre in Carlisle.
Part of the nationwide Let’s Dance campaign, spearheaded by Angela Ripon, aims is to inspire everyone in the UK to embrace dance as a way to improve health, connect with others and have fun.
The two free introductory dance-based activities on Sunday March 2, which will be run by instructor Maralyn Burgess, include a line dancing session at 11.30am, followed by a swing dance class at 12.45pm. They are designed to encourage participation and promote physical and mental well-being.
Matthew Graham, health and fitness manager at the Sands Centre, said: “We’re delighted to be supporting the Let’s Dance campaign this year and hope to encourage more local people to participate in dance and celebrate the joy of movement through the taster sessions.
“Our regular social dance classes at the Sands Centre have been running since the mid-1990s and are incredibly popular, attracting almost 20 people each week.”
The weekly social dance class runs each Thursday at the Sands Centre from 1.30pm to 2.30pm and is designed to help people get active, learn a new skill and meet people in a relaxed and friendly environment.
Choreographed for all ages and abilities, the sessions cover a range of different dance styles including the fox trot, swing, jive, line dancing, tea dancing and the cha cha cha.
