A pregnant sheep had to be rescued from mud after she was chased by dogs.
Millom and Furness Coastguard rescue teams, plus Duddon Inshore Rescue, were called at around 4.30pm yesterday, Monday February 24, to land near Kirby-in-Furness Railway Station.
Sheep were scared by some dogs off their leads on the marsh.
They tried to jump a gully to escape, but being weighed down with lambs this pregnant ewe didn’t make the jump and had to be extracted.
Passers-by spent over an hour rescuing the sheep.
Millom Coastguard Rescue Team said: “This incident could have escalated quickly. Please keep your dogs on a lead when there are sheep about, especially during lambing season.”
The teams were asked to provide safety cover for the people attempting to free the sheep but were stood down on their way there.
