The Whitehaven Cup took centre stage on Saturday in the Cumberland County League with the second round stage taking place.

Workington Juniors who have recently been crowned champions of Division One faced a tough test when they travelled to Carlisle based outfit Unisun Athletic.

Despite their record dip in form in the Premier Division, Unisun won this tie 2-1 with both Josh Morley and Ellis Dickinson on the Scoresheet. Harry Watson scored for Workington.

Premier Division outfits Maryport Athletic and Aspatria faced each other with an Ethan Weir goal grabbing a 1-0 victory for Maryport.

In a seven goal thriller, Windscale Reserves edged past Bransty Rangers 4-3 in this all Division One affair with goals from Jack Harrison, Kieran Frazer, Jack Fitzpatrick and Dylan Mcalone. Alfie Cornish, Dean Relph and Chris Armstrong all found the back of the net for Bransty.

In another all Division One encounter, Dearham United ran out 4-1 winners against Silloth with goals being provided by Daniel Little (2), Alfie Green and Lewis Manchester. Gareth Lewis was Silloth’s goal scorer.

A Shane Tyson double gave Division One side Whitehaven AFC Reserves a 2-0 win against Unisun Athletic Youth Development from the same division to help them advance into the next round.

In the last of the all Division One ties, Ryan Smith and Jordan Priestley goals helped Mirehouse overcome Cockermouth Reserves 2-0.

Whitehaven Miners Social against Cockermouth was moved to Thursday night with this all Premier Division tie ending 2-2.

Luke Graham hit two goals for Cockermouth with Bradley O’Pray and Owen Woods both finding the target for Miners who advance into the next round after winning the fixture 5-4 on penalties.

The round one fixture between Keswick and Cleator Moor Celtic Reserves which was postponed a few weeks ago due to a waterlogged pitch was rescheduled in the week to be played on Saturday.

However the all Premier Division encounter was postponed once again this time at short notice due to Cleator Moor struggling to field a side.
