A 32-year-old man who is facing the death penalty if he is found guilty of drug dealing in Bali is believed to be from Cumbria.
Thomas Parker was arrested after police said they recovered 1kg of MDMA – the main ingredient of ecstasy – in a mail package.
It is understood that he grew up in Seaton, near Workington, and was known as Matthew.
It is believed he was a pupil at the then Stainburn School, studied at Lakes College, Lillyhall, to become an electrician and emigrated to Australia.
He was arrested on January 21, but this was only known to have happened after he was brought out by authorities at a press conference yesterday, Thursday, March 6.

Police said they noticed him acting suspiciously while collecting a package from a motorcycle taxi driver and when they approached him, he fled, discarding the package.

He was traced to a villa, where he was arrested. He will now be charged with the importation, trafficking, and possession of drugs, it is being reported.
If found guilty, he could be sentenced to death under Indonesian law, as his charges are multiple drug offences. He remains in custody.

It is being reported that authorities are attempting to identify the sender of the package.
If Mr Parker co-operated with the authorities, there would be an option for a lighter sentence, it is understood.
