Three youths have been rescued after getting trapped on Workington’s slag banks.
Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue were called out this afternoon, Sunday March 16, after a 999 call reported a number of young people trapped on the banks and in need of assistance.
Initially, the call had been received by Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service who went out to rescue the trip.
When the Whitehaven team arrived on the scene, the second young person was in the process of being rescued by the fire service.
As a rope rescue was not needed, the teams casualty carers assessed each of the three youths who were found to be wet and in shock but otherwise okay.
The trio were then transferred to the care of the North West Ambulance Service.
Colleagues from Maryport Coastguard Rescue also attended and were sent to the scene with rope rescue equipment.
Cumbria Police also attended the incident.
