Station Road returned to winning ways with an important 3-2 victory over Workington Golf Club in the L&L Property Contractors Snooker League this week to keep up their title challenging hopes.

Darren Lawson opened the match in style, defeating Mark Brasted 67-28 to put Station Road ahead. However, Workington Golf Club quickly responded as Brian Walker edged past John Teasdale 54-47 in a tight second frame.

The home side struck back in emphatic fashion as Kevin Kirkham delivered an outstanding performance to defeat Phil Sorfleet 86-23 and restore Station Road’s lead at 2-1.

Simon Fraser once again proved to be a key player for Golf Club, battling past Chris Hunter 59-32 to level the match at 2-2.

Nevertheless, Station Road captain Tom Thompson held firm in the final frame, securing a 60-45 victory over Ryan Ismay to seal the 3-2 win for the Station Road outfit.

Station Road stay in second and now move to 43 points in division 1, while Workington Golf Club prop up the table on 35 points.

Up next, Workington Veterans Club A continued their strong form in division 1 with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over division 2 leaders Workington Cons in a tense battle that saw several close frames.

David Holland gave Workington Cons the ideal start after an unfortunate in-off on the pink from Mark Tunstall gave Holland a 55-46 win.

However, Kevin Basnett responded emphatically, securing a 49-19 victory against Julian Plaza to level the match at 1-1.

In frame three, Alan Moore produced a solid performance, constructing a break of 30 en route to a 69-15 win over Mark Tatton, reclaiming the lead for Workington Cons in the process.

Yet, the match took another twist as Paul Smith, needing two snookers, delivered under extreme pressure, edging Ryan Barker 59-58 in a dramatic frame to tie things up at 2-2.

The deciding frame saw Vets A hold firm with Cons Brian Kendall going down 68-12, this sealing a vital 3-2 victory for Vets A, keeping them firmly in the division 1 title race.

Vets A remain in third place in division 1 on 40 points, while Workington Cons remain top of division 2 now on 38 points.

League leaders United Club A continued in their impressive division 1 campaign with a dominant 4-1 victory over division 2’s Maryport Social.

Ben Scott gave Maryport Social an early lead, securing a 52-25 win over Dave Chapman in the opening frame.

However, United A bounced back quickly as Clive Lister controlled frame two, defeating Andrew Sharp 53-25 to level the match at 1-1.

From there, United Club A took full control, with Mark Suitor outplaying Gary Miller 73-29 before Peter O’Hagan cruised past Andrew Scott 63-17 to put United A into a 3-1 ahead.
