Plans to create a new Barrow nightclub have been given the go-ahead, creating around 25 new jobs.

Work will start soon to turn Theatre Bar on Cavendish Street and former takeaway Wrapport into a nightclub, restaurant and bar.

The site of the former takeaway will consist of a kitchen area and a chill out bar area on the ground floor, with a restaurant on the first floor.

There will be a bar on the ground floor of Theatre Bar with a stage area, a general seating area and a VIP seating area on the second floor.

Toilets will be in the cellar, the first floor and the fourth floor.

There will also be a rooftop terrace, with smoking and non-smoking areas, on the roof of the venue.

Planning diagrams show there would be connecting points between the currently separate properties.

Westmorland & Furness Council approved the planning application this week.

A report by council planning officers states the proposals represented a welcome revitalisation of the site.

The report added: “This investment into the Cavendish Street commercial environment is certainly welcomed as a public interest benefit, both directly in terms of the physical alterations proposed, and indirectly as a potential driver for similar actions elsewhere.

“Such investment can contribute to increasing the vibrancy and vitality of this important activity hub within the town centre and ultimately the quality of the visitor experience to both it and the wider town centre.”

Plans said there could be 22 full-time and 16 part-time jobs. Currently, it employs six full-time members of staff and seven part-time workers.

Premises licences were also granted for the sale of alcohol until 5am last year for a venue called Legacy at 57-59 Cavendish Street and for Bistro 59 at 59 Cavendish Street.
