A man has been sentenced to more than two years in prison after being found with cocaine valued at around £100,000.
Jamie Rowan, 35, of Caulstran Street, Dumfries, was sentenced today, March 21, at Carlisle Crown Court to two years and eight months in prison after he admitted the offence.
The court heard how Rowan came to the attention of police when two officers noticed a van driving erratically on the A69 on the evening of November 8 2024.
Officers stopped the van, searched the vehicle and recovered a kilogram package containing a powder, under the driver’s seat.
The powder was subsequently tested and found to be cocaine with an approximate street value of £100,000.
Detective Inspector Jamie Eaton said: “The actions of two police constables in stopping a suspicious vehicle has resulted in £100,000-worth of cocaine being removed from circulation before it can do any harm, and the dealer being given a significant term of imprisonment.
“Our officers are always on the lookout for those who think they can import drugs into or via Cumbria and regularly make arrests whilst recovering drugs and cash.
“This case once again demonstrates that Cumbria has a zero-tolerance approach to the supply of drugs and our officers will not hesitate to act against dealers.”
