Plans have been submitted to create a permanent banking hub in Cockermouth.
Earlier this month, a temporary facility was created at the town’s Scout Centre.
Now, an application has been lodged with Cumberland Council for 50 Main Street – the former office of solicitors Waugh & Musgrave, which has now moved to another office on the street.
If approved, the new banking hub would include an ATM and host major banks five days a week.
At the the temporary hub, customers can pay in cash and cheques, withdraw cash, check balances and business customers can pay in cash and cheques, withdraw cash and access change-giving services.
People can also pay bills, including utility payments and top-ups.
The temporary hub will also host community bankers, who provide banking services and support for customers, including personal details, handling payments and transfers, and providing guidance on general account management and selected card and payment services, from next month.
On Mondays from May 12, the Halifax will have a community banker on site. On Wednesdays, from April 9, Barclays customers will be able to see their representative. By April 3 on Thursdays, HSBC will be there and from April 4, Fridays will see a Lloyds representative on site.
The application for the new Main Street hub is currently under consultation with the council.
