Work to repair a number of car parks in a popular coastal village has begun today.
Contractors were not due to move into Allonby, near Maryport, but the work has been brought forward.
The work is estimated to take between five and 10 working days to complete.
Cumberland Council said the repairs will address some longstanding damage to the surfaces of the car parks and include regrading of the car parks and some tarmac patching.
The team has started work in Surfers Car Park today and then will head north to undertake work in West Winds Car Park, Main Car Park (opposite Jack’s Surf Bar), and then Central Car Park (next to the play area).
Work on the three car parks immediately north of the village will also be carried out as part of this phase of work.
The car parks in the centre of the village will not all be closed at the same time to ensure disruption to residents, businesses and visitors is kept to a minimum.
However, while work is ongoing in a particular car park, it will be closed for the duration of the work, the authority said.
