Appleby First Responders

Cumbrian first responders will be carrying out a training day next month.

It has been organised by Appleby and District Community First Responder Group, in partnership with North West Ambulance Service and will take place on April 6 at Long Marton Primary School.

Volunteer first responders from Appleby, Kirkby Stephen, Penrith, Carlisle, Sedbergh and surrounding villages, paramedics, representatives from the North West Ambulance Service will be taking part in the event.

It will feature actors, from Barrow, who will be performing to give the volunteers a realistic training scenario of emergencies.

This scenario training day has been organised by the Appleby group to support and upskill its volunteers, while also helping with team building and widening the first responder network across Cumbria.

First responders carry an emergency pager app and respond to emergencies including cardiac arrest, heart attacks, strokes, seizures, collapse, unconsciousness and bleeds/falls.

They provide live saving support and intervention in rural areas while the paramedics are on their way in an ambulance.

A spokesman for the Appleby group said: “We are hugely supported by the local community and we were keen to organise this event to raise awareness throughout the community and highlight the important training we do to keep responders skilled and ready to attend emergency situations.”
