Goals galore in Cumberland County League

Unisun’s Ellis Dickinson battles for the ball (Ben Challlis)

Cumberland County League matches were full of goals this weekend, despite some games experiencing horrendous weather conditions.

In Division One, second place Mirehouse got themselves a 4-1 win against Whitehaven Miners Social Development.

Bradley Conaluca scored twice for Mirehouse with their other goals coming from Callum Wilson and Ryan O’Neill. Ben McCarron netted for Miners Development.

Ryan Cornish grabbed himself a brace with Alfie Cornish also scoring to help Bransty Rangers to a 3-1 win against Unisun Athletic Youth Development with their goal being provided by Kieran Kellett.

In the group stage of the Ken Glover Memorial Cup, there was a seven-goal thriller as Whitehaven Miners Social beat Wigton Harriers 4-3. Bradley O’Pray, Nathan Walkingshaw, Owen Woods and Alex Parr all netted for Miners with Louie Elliot, Carl Lightfoot and Harvey Harrison scoring for Wigton.

Ryan Swailes, Ellis Dickinson, Ollie Reay and Shane Dorward were all on the scoresheet for Unisun Athletic to help them to a 4-1 win against Keswick to keep them top of the group. Luke Mason netted for Keswick.

On a wet and windy afternoon, and despite going down to 10 men after a red card, two second half goals, goals from Man of the Match Dickinson on 67 minutes, and Dorward just three minutes later put the game beyond Keswick and sealed the win for Unisun.

Cockermouth and Maryport Athletic who are  both battling it out at the top of the Premier Division met up in the Ken Glover Memorial Cup with Maryport claiming the victory on this occasion. A Ciaran Laverty double gave Maryport a 2-1 victory with Rob Cox netting for Cockermouth.

In the League Cup 2, Whitehaven AFC Reserves thrashed Silloth 13-0 with goals coming from Joe Carney (3), Keenan Mackay, Will Starkey, Aaron Starkey, Shaun Carter, Jack Hawley, Carter Tervet, Joe Martin and 3 own goals.

Unisun celebrate Ry Swailes’ goal (Ben Challis)

Coady Scott, Kieren Fraser and Matthew Pilkington all found the back of the net for Windscales Reserves as they beat Cockermouth Reserves 3-2. Ben Greaves scored twice for Cockermouth.

On Friday evening, Cleator Moor Celtic Reserves beat Aspatria 8-3 in the League Cup 1. Sean O’Neil (3), Brad Barwise (2), Sam Stones, Harley Cueto and Ethan Thornton all netted for Celtic with Aspatria goals coming from Andrew Trestianu (2) and Liam Parker.
