Firefighters tackled over 40 wildfires over the weekend across Cumbria.
Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service said it could not confirm how many fires broke out as it was treated as a single incident. Six crews worked to extinguish the fires between St Bees and Nethertown.
A spokesman said there were a significant number of fires along a two-mile stretch. At one point on Saturday, it was estimated there were 21 fires.
Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service confirmed that the cause was being investigated.
Crews were called at around 3pm to the area to tackle the blaze of grass and gorse.
They left the area at around 10pm on Saturday and returned on Sunday, April 6, where they continued to dampen down hotspots.

Firefighters were due to return yesterday, Monday April 7, the service said, to inspect that stretch of coast to monitor and check for hotspots.
The spokesman added: “We would urge people who see a fire outdoors to always move to a place of safety and call 999.
“Do not attempt to tackle the fire yourself, give as much information as you can about the size of the fire, location and terrain.
“To help reduce the risk of fires outdoors, you should only have campfires or barbecues in designated areas, never leave them unattended, and ensure they are extinguished fully.
“You should also ensure that you dispose of cigarettes and smoking materials safely.”
