People can learn how to help others struggling with loss at workshops run by a Cumbrian hospice.
St Mary’s Hospice, based in Ulverston, has launched the workshops to equip people with the tools and confidence to support others.
The Bereavement Champion workshops provide training for those who have the opportunity to offer a compassionate ear and direct people to further support.
A recent session welcomed a group of participants including an osteopath, care agency staff, representatives of local community groups, and corporate employees.
The aims of the workshop is to give people a deeper understanding of how to support the bereaved – not as trained counsellors, but as compassionate listeners who can offer guidance and reassurance.
They gained the skills needed to make a positive difference, helping those who may not otherwise reach out for support.
St Mary’s Hospice said: “We would love to continue delivering these invaluable workshops, and the public can play a vital role in making that happen.
“By choosing St Mary’s Hospice as your charity when you shop at the Co-op, you can help us continue providing high-quality training like this to our community.
“Every contribution ensures that more people are equipped to offer compassionate support to those who need it most.”
