
A man has been arrested after he was spotted using cocaine before getting behind the wheel of a car.
Cumbria police said they received a report about the incident from a member of the public in Carlisle yesterday, Tuesday April 9.
Cumbria Constabulary said: “Officers responded and stopped a car in the Woodend Drive area of Carlisle.
“The driver, a 55-year-old man from Carlisle, failed a roadside drugs wipe for cocaine and was arrested at around 12.20pm on suspicion of drug driving.
“He was subsequently released under investigation to allow time for blood test results.”
A 34-year-old man from Lancashire was stopped in Warwick Road in Carlisle yesterday morning and arrested on suspicion of driving a motor vehicle with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit, driving a mechanically propelled vehicle on a road without due care and attention and possessing cannabis
He was released under investigation.
The arrests were part of Operation Spotlight, a month-long campaign to target the Fatal Four, which are the most dangerous behaviours on the road – speeding, using a mobile phone at the wheel, not wearing a seatbelt and driving under the influence of drink and/or drugs.
