A Lake District festival celebrating the outdoors has extended its line-up.
Base Camp Festival 2025 will be held at the eastern end of Buttermere in the Lake District from July 4 to July 7 July and offers outdoor activities, talks, films, workshops, music, food and drink, and more.
New speakers who have been confirmed for the festival include mountaineers Adriana Brownlee, the youngest woman to climb all 14 of the world’s 8,000 metre mountains, and Paul ‘Tut’ Braithwaite, who played a key role in the success of the 1975 expedition that saw the first Britons stand on the summit of Everest.
Base Camp Festival is a celebration of the outdoors and the people who make time in nature special. The festival aims to be the friendliest event around, with inclusivity the single most important consideration of the organisers.
The festival is for those aged 18 and over and will be hosted at Gatesgarth Farm, at the eastern end of Buttermere.
The location is designed to give everyone who attends a genuine opportunity to be in nature with like-minded people, and has a capacity of 400.
Other new speakers who have been added to the schedule include climber and mountain guide Adele Pennington, the first British woman to climb Everest twice, Coinneach MacLeod, who is also known as the Hebridean Baker, and Allie Mason, who will speak about her experiences as an autistic adventurer.
Base Camp Festival tickets give those who attend free access to a wide range of supervised and instructor-led activities and workshops on site and nearby, including wild water swimming, stand-up paddleboarding, climbing, yoga, bushcraft, ropework, expedition first aid, cooking demonstrations with Fell Foodie Harrison Ward, and ultra-running tutorials with retailer Ellis Brigham.
Festival-goers can also opt to pay for additional guided sessions in many other outdoor activities on and around the Lakeland fells. Throughout the festival, gear demos and advice will be delivered on site by Ellis Brigham, Montane, EXPED and La Sportiva.
There will be live music each evening, featuring acts such as Canadian folk-rock duo McKenna, Scottish cover band Toast, and the Cumbrian-based soul and blues band Bare Wires.
The festival will also screen an extensive schedule of award winning outdoor themed films, while the site will host food from Love Pizza and the KatVandu food truck (Himalayan style), with vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options available.
Cumbria’s Fell Brewery will be bringing its real ales to the festival, with a free welcome pint for guests on arrival. Every ticket holder will also receive a goody bag worth £30, including a festival T-shirt.
