A warning has been issued to people using nitrous oxide that they could face arrest and prosecution.
Carlisle police said empty canisters of the gas are continuing to be found discarded across the city and neighbourhood policing team officers found the latest by a roadside yesterday, Sunday April 20.
Carlisle Police said: “These canisters are generally bought over the internet and the gas within is then inhaled to get a short high.
“This is not harmless fun for those involved. Nitrous oxide is now classified as a class C controlled drug and anyone found in possession could face arrest and prosecution.
“Heavy nitrous oxide use can also seriously impact a person’s health by causing neurological damage and potential suffocation from the lack of oxygen.”
