A fundraising event for a cancer charity will be staged in Bowness, featuring the celebrity author, broadcaster and triathlete Louise Minchin.
Visitors will be invited to Meet the Author as Louise tells of her life, from TV reality shows to ultra-distance endurance events.
She is a patron of Move Against Cancer, a community-based initiative to encourage those living with and beyond cancer, their families and friends, and those working in cancer services to walk, jog, run, cheer or volunteer at a local 5k Your Way group at designated parkrun events on the last Saturday of every month.
She once won £32,000 for MOVE on Celebrity Who Wants To Be A Millionaire.
The Burn How Hotel at Bowness-on-Windermere, is staging the event on Saturday May 3 and is asking visitors to donate £10 to the charity as their entry fee.
“We have been long-time supporters of the Move charity. So we are delighted to have the opportunity to raise money for them with a celebrity edition of our Meet the Author sessions,” said organiser Vicky Robinson.
The first 5k Your Way in the area will take place at Fell Foot parkrun the previous Saturday, April 26.
Louise Minchin presented the UK’s most watched morning programme, BBC Breakfast for 20 years. Before that she was a news anchor on the BBC News Channel and the BBC’s One O’clock News. She has also presented The One Show, Five Live Drive, Real Rescues and Missing Live, and has taken part in several reality TV shows.
She has also written several books. Her first, Dare to Tri, charted her journey from the BBC Breakfast sofa to representing the Great Britain Triathlon team in her age-group at World and European Championships.
Her second book Fearless: Adventures with Extraordinary Women reflects her passion for celebrating women’s success in sport and endeavour. Her debut thriller, Isolation Island, is set in a gruelling reality television show on a remote Scottish island.
At the Burn How Hotel she will be in conversation with Jo Moseley who has written two books about paddleboarding. The event starts at 7pm, and there’s no need to book in advance.
The hotel stages regular Meet the Author events, usually on the last Wednesday in the month. On Weds April 30 their guest is the wild swimming novelist Ellie Wood.
