A Lake District Lions club helped a carers charity raise over £11,000 as it celebrated 50 years of community fundraising.
Windermere & Ambleside Lions Club supported Carer Support South Lakes with match funding.
The Lions, a volunteer organisation, chose the unpaid carers charity to benefit from its annual classic car show at Staveley.
A team from the charity, based in Kendal, hosted a tent and stand at the event, and presented the prizes and handed out the medals to all the car owners who took part.
Secretary of Windermere & Ambleside Lions Club, Chris Amos said: “Since 2012 we have invited a local charity to work with for our annual classic car show, and I was delighted when Carer Support South Lakes were chosen as during lockdown I was a carer myself and was put in touch with the charity and also their men’s carer support group.
“I took part in the first K2K Keswick to Kendal walk to raise funds for Carer Support South Lakes, and I now volunteer to be a sitter, staying with someone whilst their carer takes an hour or two break. Because I have been a carer and also a volunteer, I think people could see the benefit Carer Support South Lakes provides to people locally.
“This was our 50th year of fundraising in the community, and we invited Carer Support South Lakes to join us for our charter celebration at Crooklands where they gave a short talk about their work and we presented them with a cheque for £6,000 which through match funding was made up to £11,000.”
CEO of Carer Support South Lakes, Debi Marsden, said: “We were honoured to be selected by Windermere & Ambleside Lions Club to be their chosen charity for the annual classic car show, and we were able to increase that amount with match funding from the Big Give by £5,000.
“We were delighted to be invited to their 50th charter celebration, which provided us with an opportunity to thank everyone for their support. This donation enable us to continue to provide much needed support in our community.”
Carer Support South Lakes provide support to unpaid carers, including carers aged from five to 100-plus, parent and adult carers.
