A Cumbrian woman has written her debut children’s book, which will be published this week.
Lisa Jackson’s day job is running Acorn Marketing but she said her book was a passion project.
A marketing consultant with almost 25 years of experience, she said alongside her professional expertise, she had always been a passionate creator.
She said she had channelled that creativity into the world of children’s literature, bringing to life a story inspired by her daughter’s love of reading and her father’s experiences in hospital.
Lisa said: “I’ve always been told I have a book in me, but I never wanted to write a generic marketing book.
“This book is something completely different – a passion project that blends humour, adventure, and heart. Launching it on May 1 felt right. It’s the birthday of my business, Acorn Marketing, which I set up 14 years ago. Publishing my first book on that day feels like the perfect way to celebrate how far I’ve come, personally and professionally.”
Doctor April and the Rainbow Farts saw Lisa partner with Carlisle-based illustrator Lou Kneath, whose cover design helps bring the world of Doctor April to life.
Lisa has also worked closely with Danielle Hone, of Emmer Publishing, based near Kendal, who specialises in helping business owners turn their book ideas into reality.
Danielle provided expert guidance on the technical aspects of publishing, from introducing Lisa to professional children’s book editors and proofreaders to ensuring the book met the highest publishing standards.
Lisa added: “I don’t see this as a career change – I still love marketing, and Acorn Marketing will always be my focus. But writing this book has reminded me how important it is to follow your passions, embrace creativity, and try new things. Who knows? This might just be the start of something bigger.”
Doctor April and the Rainbow Farts will be available on Amazon from tomorrow, April 1.
