A butchery apprentice at Cranstons is celebrating completing his course.
Rhys Farrar, who works at the firm’s Brampton Food Hall, joined in 2023.
With a farming background, Rhys was always curious about the next steps once animals left the farm. His apprenticeship has given him the opportunity to master the intricacies of butchery, from honing knife skills to understanding the craft behind every cut of meat.
The Cranstons butchery apprenticeship is a structured, hands-on programme designed to provide apprentices with practical experience and academic knowledge.
Rhys completed the academic side of his apprenticeship through support from Meat Ipswich.
Dave Dobson, assistant manager at Brampton Food Hall, said: “Rhys has shown incredible commitment and passion throughout his apprenticeship.
“He’s made the most of every opportunity to learn, consistently improving his techniques and delivering work of the highest standard. It’s been rewarding to watch his growth.”
Rhys said: “The apprenticeship has been an amazing opportunity. I’ve enjoyed learning different techniques from experienced butchers and refining my own approach.
“Practising regularly allowed me to improve my skills and gain confidence in the craft. I’m excited to continue my journey in butchery.”
With his apprenticeship now complete, Rhys looks forward to furthering his career at Cranstons. He aims to take on more responsibilities within the business and aspires to move into a supervisory role.
Peter Potts, senior retail area manager at Cranstons, added: “We’re committed to developing people at every level of our business, and apprenticeships are a brilliant way to do that.
“They give individuals the opportunity to learn valuable skills, grow in confidence, and build a long-term career. It’s fantastic to see apprentices like Rhys thrive with the right support – they’re not just part of the team, they’re the future of the business.”
