A man has appeared in court accused both of being in charge of a dog which twice bit a female police constable and attempting to assault the officer by using the animal as a weapon.
Thirty-year-old Henry Taroni appeared at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court earlier today, when he faced a number of charges.
One alleges that Taroni was in charge of a white and brown greyhound which, while dangerously out of control, caused injury to the PC at an address on Moatside in Brampton on Tuesday, May 6.
Prosecutor Diane Jackson said the officer’s skin was broken as she was bitten twice, resulting in her receiving a tetanus injection.
It was further alleged by the PC that Taroni had used the dog as a weapon during the same incident, resulting in an additional charge of common assault on an emergency worker.
Taroni faced a third charge which alleged that he resisted the same officer in the execution of her duty. Two other charges alleged common assault on one man by Taroni and assault by beating of another, also on May 6.
A seventh charge alleges that Taroni failed to comply with previously imposed sex offender notification requirements.
It is said he did so between March 13 and May 6, at Brampton, by failing to both attend suitable accommodation upon his release from prison, and notify police where he was living.
During today’s short hearing, Taroni spoke from the court to confirm his name, date of birth and address of Moatside, Brampton.
No pleas were entered to any of the charges. The case was sent to Carlisle Crown Court, where Taroni is due to appear in front of a judge for a plea and trial preparation hearing on June 6.
In the meantime he has been remanded in custody.
