Basil Brush will be among the attractions at Workington’s Party in the Park next month.
Held in Vulcan Park from 11am to 7pm on Saturday June 7, organisers say the free event will be a day of family fun with a host of entertainment.
Organised by Workington Town Council, it will feature three major attractions in the main marquee: a companion dog show, a community talent show, and an evening comedy show featuring established comedians Dean Coughlin (Northwest Comedy Awards winner), Simon Wozniak (host of Another One Podcast), Oliver Bowler (BBC New Comedy Awards 2024 shortlist), and Duncan Oakley (former English Comedian of the Year).
The main stage will host continuous entertainment throughout the day, including a special appearance by beloved TV character Basil Brush, alongside local performers and a magic show.
Councillor Ellie Wood, chair of the Council’s Culture and Social Investment Committee, said: “I think everyone in the town looks forward to our Party in the Park event each year.
“They know they will be able to enjoy a great family day with many of the activities being free of charge for them.
“We are very excited to welcome Basil Brush this year. These events are a lot of fun, but they also provide family experiences and unique opportunities that can be difficult to access for some.”
Party in the Park will also include:
- Graffiti workshops by Beardy Synergy
- Face painting by Gray’s Arts
- Craft activities with Gloria Wood
- Market stalls featuring local vendors
- Food and refreshment stands
- Funfair attractions (small charge applies)
The Companion Dog Show begins at 11am, offering classes for pedigree and novelty entries, with special prizes including Best in Show.
The talent show runs from 2pm to 4pm, showcasing local performers, followed by the comedy show from 5pm to 7pm.
